There is one key detail: using the system correctly is what makes the difference between protecting your guitar and damaging it without noticing.
In this guide, you will learn how to assemble and disassemble a Pullaway guitar correctly, with practical habits to keep it stable, in tune, and reliable for years.
Essential first step
Always loosen the strings
Before touching the neck:
- Loosen all strings.
- You can keep them on (faster).
- You can remove them (easier handling).
Safe neck release
Correct instrument position
- Place the guitar vertically.
- Support it on a table.
- Make sure it is stable.
Where to apply pressure
- Locate fret 12.
- Place both thumbs just below fret 11.
- Press on the wood (not on the metal fret).
Safe neck separation
- Press outward with both thumbs.
- Once released, hold the neck immediately with index and middle fingers.
- Avoid sudden drops or abrupt movement.
Correct assembly
This is where most mistakes happen. Sequence matters.
Ideal work position
- Stand in front of a clear table.
- Support the guitar on the table.
- Keep it in a vertical working position.
- Hold it with both hands.
Neck fitting
- Align neck and body joint.
- Place your thumbs on the heel area (also called the button).
- Press inward until it locks firmly.
Check there is no play and the neck is fully fixed.
Correct stringing
- Thread all 6 strings.
- Tie a simple knot.
- Tuners: 1 wrap on bass strings, 2 wraps on treble strings.
Tuning and settling
- Tune all strings.
- Let the guitar rest.
How to confirm the guitar is correctly assembled
Do this quick check before playing or traveling:
- Lay the guitar flat on a table.
- Use a flat object like a credit card and rest it across frets 11, 12, and 13.
- Check whether the card rocks up and down.
Recommended maintenance
Keep it assembled
Whenever possible, store it assembled. It improves tuning, stability and tonal response.
Before live performance
If you traveled with it disassembled, assemble it at least 2 hours before playing.
Periodic check
- Neck fit.
- String condition.
- Cracks or deformation.
- String action.
Basic cleaning
Before storage, clean fingerboard, strings and top with a microfiber cloth.
